"The immigrated Nepalese are more than sixty lakhs in India. They work in different professions and earn their respectable livelihood. In Mumbai the capital of Maharashtra, there are more than two lakh Nepalese. The immigration was a fate accompli which dates back to centuries. There exist no official records, the Nepalese started coming to Mumbai way back since 1935.

The immigrating populace in Mumbai was firstly organized as Gorkha regiment in 1947, later in1952 as Nepali Sanskrit Sangh, vishwa Nepali sangh was formed in 1958 followed by Nepali Yuvak sangh and Nepali Vidhyarthi Parishad in 1962. It was observed that, by this time the number of Nepalese were quite high and there were more than 17 Nepalese organizations working in Mumbai.
